—about t’hy’la

The Vulcan word t’hy’la was coined by Gene Roddenberry in the 1979 Motion Picture novelization. Spock used it to describe his relationship to Kirk.

The novelization’s footnote defines t’hy’la to be the closet Vulcan approximation to our word “friend” and can also mean brother or lover.

(We have no idea how to pronounce it.)
