Six former ficwip events are returning for another round! Participate in one or multiple.
Events are similar to how they originally ran, but we’ve simplified where possible and you’re on the honor system for certain parts.

UPDATES
1/14/26: Event rules are tidied!
1/15/26: Clarified that derivative works, by nature, derive from existing works and aren’t considered new for the purpose of this event. However, they will be permitted for two of the six sub-events. (They’re allowed as supplements in the others but not as main submissions.)

Event rules are subject to change! We are still refining them.
overall event rules
These are the overall rules for the rewind event. Please visit the individual sub-event pages (linked below) for additional criteria. It’s your responsibility to read the rules in full and ask for clarification if you do not understand something. If you persistently ask questions that are already answered in this documentation, making it clear you did not read it, you could lose the right to participate.
- The six sub-events are separate.
- We are referring to them as
sub-events to distinguish them from the overall rewind event.
- Each sub-event has additional criteria for participation, linked below.
- Participate in one sub-event or multiple!
- You can create multiple works for any of the six sub-events!
- A fanwork only counts toward ONE sub-event!
- You may not cross-post among the sub-events, even if your fanwork meets 100% of the criteria for multiple. Pick one!
- If you’re not aiming to complete all six sub-events, this is moot, since completing any of the six completes the rewind event. If you are aiming to complete all six, however, you’ll need to submit six different fanworks.
- Event works must be unique and standalone. If you write the same fandom for multiple sub-events, or post works that are related to each other (such as by a series), each work should have distinct tags.
- No cross-posting with any other organized events (not ours or someone else’s).
- Open to all fandoms, ships, gen, and original fiction.
- Note: Crossover & crack events might not work for pure original fiction, unless you have two originals that you can cross.
- New, never-been-published works only for this round.
- You can dust off an existing WIP if it has not been previously published.
- Derivative works (such as podfics and translations) by nature derive from an existing, published work, so they break the “new, unpublished works only” rule above. They are only accepted as submissions for Rise of the Dead Fandoms and The Tiny Ship Fleet Fest. (You can, of course, create derivative works of any of your own qualifying rewind submissions! We will happily host them in the collections.)
- Art should be a new, unique piece, not an illustration for an existing fic. But you MAY write and illustrate works for the rewind event!
- All fanwork types are permitted (e.g. fic, art, fanmix, cosplay, graphics, recipes, ice sculpture), as long as they work with the sub-event theme/prompt.
- Derivative works (ones that derive from an existing, published work, such as podfics and translations) are only accepted as submissions for Rise of the Dead Fandoms and The Tiny Ship Fleet Fest. (You can, of course, create derivative works of any of your own qualifying rewind submissions! We will happily host them in the collections.)
- There are no general content restrictions. All genres and tropes are permitted as long as they fit requirements. We just ask that you tag honestly so people can make informed decisions.
- Except for fandom smash-up!, which has specified minimums, there are no minimum or maximum size requirements for fanworks.
- Sequels and prequels are okay as long as what you make for this event can stand alone. Event works can also be related to one another as long as they can stand alone.
- Works must be complete and fully posted* by the end of the rewind event.
- *The Spitefest & Make Me (Crack) Ship It do not require public posting, but you will need to give muse a copy of your completed work.
- You can claim your legacy icon once a completed qualifying work is posted to AO3 or Squidge, OR presented to muse for to spite you, personally and make me (crack) ship it!
- Participation is open to all server members. This event does not have separate sign-ups. If you’d like notifications, get the role in
Channels & Roles
- We don’t offer a way to informally participate. If you use server resources, including the mods’ time, you are considered an event participant and subject to the event rules.
- We don’t offer a way to participate without server membership. This event is too complex to run across networks.
- We celebrate human creativity. Human-made works only. No generative AI, not at any point in your creative process.
