This year, we will release our fifth volume of new original fiction by writers on the #ficwip server with the theme rain & stars.
All server members are welcome to apply and write a story for our anthology. We’ll be accepting pitches early in the year. To receive a notification about the next volume, opt into anthology updates in Channels & Roles.
The 2026 anthology team is taurus and muse.

story requirements
To ensure that all submissions fit the theme and are original fiction, we’ll ask for your pitch at sign-up.
- We are looking for new, unpublished, original short fiction using the theme rain & stars. Include both parts of the theme in a way that is significant to the story and your characters, not as generic background detail. The story should fall apart without the theme.
- Rain: This must appear as actual rain falling from the actual sky. Not a shower, not a leaking ceiling, not rain sounds for sleep. Other forms of precipitation do not qualify.
- Stars: Actual stars in the actual night sky. Depictions of stars are okay alongside the actual night sky (e.g. your MC paints starry artwork) but shouldn’t replace it.
- When you apply, we’ll ask how you plan to incorporate each part of the theme in your pitch, so give it some thought! If you’re not sure you’ve used the theme in a significant way, imagine removing rain or stars from the story. If nothing changes, they’re just background details.
- Stories may be 2,000 to 7,000 words long (firm on both ends)
- Stories may be rated general audience, teen (PG-13), or mature (R). We won’t be publishing explicit fiction.
- All genres are welcome!
- Submissions must be written in English.
- The content must be entirely original (i.e. your own characters, settings, and situations) and of your own human making. It must not infringe on any copyrights. If your work began life as fanfiction, it must be significantly changed so that it couldn’t reasonably be confused with anything you do not own the rights to. Characters in the public domain might be okay in some cases. Please see the FAQs.
