a rinharu mystery fest & zine
The game's afoot!
We’re looking for new rinharu fics and art centered around mysteries, from classic whodunnits to X-Files intrigue. This leisurely fest will run across the year and post in November, with regular progress checks to keep us on track. At the end of the fest, works will be collected in a commemorative digital zine!

Twists & Turns promo and cover artist: DeclawedWildcat
what we’re looking for:
- Fics that would make Agatha Christie proud: detectives, locked-room crimes, oh noooo~ we’re stuck on an island and someone is after us (and there’s probably only one bed)
- Noir fiction and art (e.g. The Maltese Falcon)
- Cozy mysteries (who kidnapped Iwatobi-chan?! 😱)
- Comedy whodunnits (e.g. Clue)
- Paranormal and supernatural mysteries (e.g. X-Files)
- Any genre is welcome as the story centers around some sort of mystery!
- Art of Haru and Rin depicted in any of these genres
We’re also open to themed digital merch to accompany the zine file, such as:
- printables (stickers, bookmarks, calendars, etc)
- wallpaper (phone and desktop)
- discord emojis
- icons
- coupons for fannish gifts, such as recording a podfic
event rules & eligibility
For this event, you’ll be creating fic and/or art with a mystery theme! And because we’ll be collecting all of the fest works in zine format, we have a few limitations in place to keep the size and production manageable.
minimums, maximums, and limits:
- Fic: 1,000 - 15,000 words long. You may submit multiple short fics as long as they are collectively 15k or under!
- Art: Art should be an original illustration, either digital or traditional. Limit three (3) pieces of art per participant, including spot art for fics if you choose to collaborate.
- Digital merch: Please talk to us about your plans! We’ll probably allow 1-3 pieces per person.
eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old at the time you sign up.
- You must be signed up for the fest to post for it and be included in the zine.
- You don’t need any experience with events or zines to be part of Twists & Turns! Everyone is welcome.
- But you do need to have the knowledge and software required to create what you plan to make for the fest!
- Co-writing and collaboration are welcome! Please sign up separately. You’ll have the option of checking in together. Co-written fics may only be as long as the event maximum. Spot art created for fics counts toward the event limit.
- Make sure to give us an email address that you check regularly. If you have trouble receiving our emails, the TNP discord is a great alternative!
- There are no penalties if you need to withdraw.
- Nothing submitted to Twists & Turns may be created in exchange for money.
- All event works will be included in the zine.
fic & art content
- Rinharu should be the focus and endgame ship, but all other ships are welcome.
- As long as a mystery is central to your work, all genres, tropes, and AUs are welcome. Prequels and sequels to existing works are okay as long as they can stand alone. We have no broad content restrictions.
- Fic and art headed for the zine should be rated General to Mature so we don’t have an issue hosting the zine file anywhere (or squicking the blood-sensitive designer). You may release an explicit version of your individual work(s) online!
- Create something new for the fest. It’s okay to dust off an unfinished draft lurking on your computer, but it shouldn’t be something you’ve shared before.
- For the zine, please submit English-language works only. If you plan to publish your fic in more than one language, they are all welcome in our AO3 collection.
- Works must be complete when you post them in November and submit them for the zine.
- Fics must be edited and beta read prior to being published. The mods won’t be editing or beta reading any of the works, but you can ask for a beta on our discord or work with a friend!
- Works submitted to Twists & Turns may not be cross-posted to other organized events.
