The first T’hy’la Bang (originally the T’hy’la Big Bang) was a 15k big bang that ran in 2013. It was organized by thesecretmichan and co-modded by muse, who continues to run the event today.
Emily (thesecretmichan) wanted to create an event that allowed all versions of Kirk/Spock, not just AOS or TOS, and also wanted to welcome old married spirk. muse can't find the post anymore, but once upon a time, Emily asked for a co-mod and muse thought, what a fun idea!
The first round used a separate tumblr but primarily ran on Livejournal, where most big bangs had run up until that point. See LJ for the full masterlist; the AO3 collection contains the works we could find on that archive.
In 2014, muse ran the Spock Prime Big Bang in place of the T’hy’la Bang in an experimental hybrid formula that allowed participants to take part via either Livejournal or tumblr. It was a small but mighty one-time bang!
The SPBB had a weekly author event called Coffee Shop Sunday, where authors were invited to share snippets, vent frustrations, share wins, and answer random writing questions. Four years later, this concept evolved into #ficwip.
2024 update: Coffee Shop Sunday now runs on the ficwip tumblr community! It’s in closed beta but will hopefully be open later in the year.

Note: The SPBB has been adopted and is no longer affiliated. It last ran in 2021.
2014 was also the year of Hey, Sweetheart. You’ll find its AO3 collection mixed in with the T’hy’la.
Hey, Sweetheart returned in 2022 as an all-fandoms event and now runs annually in February!
2015-2016 was the T’hy’la’s second round. It ran on Tumblr, with some help from Google Forms, and was moderated by muse and dusty.
The 2017 round, rebranded The T’hy’la Bang (removing the word “big”) ran on tumblr with some help from Airtable, and was modded by muse and plaidshirtjimkirk.

The 2018-2019 round was a relaxed, anything-goes event without formal matchups, and was modded by muse. It ran on tumblr, with some assistance from Google Docs and Airtable.
The T’hy’la Bang was back in 2020 with a traditional big bang format. This round—our largest to date—was run using a combination of Airtable, Google Docs, Discord, and Tumblr. The 2020 mod team was muse and sciencebluefeelings.
